Thurles U14 Boys v BRSI South Africa

On a fresh Sunday morning before Christmas, the Thurles U14 Boys hosted touring school side BRSI from South Africa.

The cool morning air didn't seem to affect the visitors from the Southern Hemisphere as they got off to a flying start with a well worked try in the corner to signal their arrival. To their credit, the Thurles boys fought back with a try of their own to narrow the score line.

In a game that saw plenty of running from both sides, it was the visitors' superior ball handling skills and notable size difference that saw them run out comfortable winners on the day. The Thurles Boys put in an immense effort in a game that had everything. Plenty of learnings for the Thurles Coaches to take away from, in a highly entertaining game

The post-game reception was hosted in the clubhouse where both sides enjoyed a well-earned “Irish Stew” which went down a treat with the South African side and their coaches. Following the meal, some gifts were exchanged between Club President Brian Scanlon, and the Thurles and BRSI Coaches.

The BRSI tour manager said they had never experienced such a warm welcome and hospitality before, and thanked the Committee, Players, Coaches  and Parents of Thurles RFC for the amazing experience

Brian O Dwyer closed the event by thanking the tour organisers for travelling to Thurles and wished the team well on the remainder of the tour
