Munster Women’s League
Thurles 24 - 7 Mallow
Thurles women took on Mallow in the 1st home game of their season.
Looking for a win they took to the field prepared and ready for the challenge. With difficult conditions underfoot the girls knew this was going to be a tough day.
Thurles started by running at Mallow and an interception by Mallow due to a tight channel pass , saw them opening the scoreline in favour of the visitors, Thurles 0 Mallow 7.
Thurles were quick to re set into the game and stuck to the game plan, with their strong running lines and hard workwhich was soon to pay off, when a well worked penalty from 10 metres out, proved too strong for the defence earning Thurles a well worked try with the pack driving over the line. 7-7 at half time
The Second half saw a much-improved performance and a few changes of position enabled Thurles to really take charge of the game, scoring 3 more trys with 2 conversions leaving the home side comfortable winners . Final score Thurles 24 – Mallow 7
The girls showed grit and a fantastic work ethic on the pitch driven by great leadership qualities of Captain Eimear Ryan.
On a solemn day where there was a minutes silence for last year's coach 'Sully' the sun shone down in the girls as they now look to push on and develop this new squad.
Trys by Eimear Ryan, Eileen Gleeson, Jayne Dooley and Kaitlyn Callanan. The victory will give the Women confidence, with no room for complacency ahead of Mallow’s return visit as they travel back to Thurles this Sunday for the Semi Final of the Munster Women’s Bowl. Kick off at Loughtagalla is 1pm
