U14 SHIELD FINAL
THURLES V Kilfeacle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The U14s played Kilfeacle in Cashel on Friday evening in the shield final in what was the last game of the season for this brilliant group of young men. Kilfeacle kicked off into Thurles, and from the get-go   co captain, Paddy Ryan stamped his mark on the game in some fashion, receiving the kick off and running through defenders from inside his own half and finishing under the Kilfecale posts for a wonder try and start to the game and the extras were converted by Shea Forgarty to leave it 7-0 to Thurles after only a minute of play. Kilfecale showed great resilience and brought the game to thurles in very wet and damp conditions, and had Thurles under a lot of pressure, but Thurles held strong and kept Kilfeacle out. Thurles got back into it after some great work from Cody Dooley Mason Butler and Murt Dillion, who worked their way up the field and with Alex Macormack and co-captain Philip loyld carrying made ground for that man again Paddy Ryan  to get in for his second try with the extras missed to leave it 12-0 Thurles. All credit to Kilfeacle who never gave up came back at Thurles and got in for a try of their own to leave it 12-7 at the break.
The half-time team talk was sharp, and with a lot of discussion and directions, the boys came out in the second half, fully focused on the job in hand, from the off Thurles were Tuned in and it was one of the finds of the season Johnny Whelan who crashed over for his fifth try in three games with  Shea Forgarty narrowly missing the conversion 17-7 to thurles. From here on out thurles, got a strong foot hold in the game and applied all the pressure it was James maher who struck next after some big carrys from Charlie long left   it 22-7 with the extras missed. Thurles had found their groove with player of the match Paddy Ryan crashing over for his hatrick  after some brilliant play from Dylan Delahunty and Sean Ryan in particular an with Fogarty landing the conversion left it 29-7.
Thurles made a few changes with Odran Durack bringing  freash legs to the front row and with the Thurles back 3 of Danny Corcoran Tommy Stapleton and Daithi Dunne being very soiled and not giving and not giving an inch set up that man again Paddy Ryan to get in for his fourth try in what was a final to remember for this brilliant young man and with Fogarty adding the conversion left it 36-7 to Thurles. Thurles introduced the bench of Joe O'Dwyer Eoghan Kennedy Oscar O'Donoghue Mick Burke Daniel O'Grady Mark Barrett Roan O'Donavan Rian Butler Rory Morris Adam Macloughlin Odran Doyle and Senan Joyce who all played a vital roll in this memorable victory to cap off a brilliant season for this group who have developed and progressed brilliantly since last September.
