U16 Thurles v Carrick
U16 Boys Pan Munster Plate Competition
Our U16 started the New Year with a home game against Carrick On Suir on Saturday 3rd of January. It was a cold day with early frost but the game went ahead despite the crisp conditions. Numbers were low for both teams due to the flu season being in full swing.
The game kicked off and it did not take long for MJ to break through the Carrick defense and take a try after just 5mins but a tight angle did not yield a conversion. James Verling was on kicking duty for the game but his fortunes would change and he would put many between the posts as the game progressed. After another 5mins Carrick would get their first converted try. Our team would take the next try a few minutes later but not convert and duly followed by another converted try from Carrick before the whistle leaving it at 10-14. At half time the boys got a stern warning from the coaches that the kicking game would have to be left alone in favour of using the power and speed to break through a lacklustre Carrick defense.
The second half would begin and within minutes the half time plan had kicked into 5th gear with four trys in just 10mins with three being converted. Carrick would make the next score with a slip in attention from our backs and a dart down the line to get the try. In the closing 5mins Thurles would make a further two tries to close the scoreboard at 48-19. A strong win for the young men in Black and White
Trys by MJ O Mahony, Michael Bourke, Charlie Long, Oscar O Donoghue, Finn Green, Mark Boland with conversions by James Verling.
