A Fitting Tribute to Bobby O Brien – Thurles RFC
In February 2017, Thurles RFC lost one of its greatest ever members in Bobby O Brien. Bobby had been a massive part of Thurles Rugby Club as a player and then aa a Committee Member and later as Fixtures Secretary.
Bobby O Brien’s name was synonymous with rugby not only in Thurles, but right accross the province of Munster having served for many years on the Tipperary Rugby Committee

Recently at Thurles Rugby Club, we were privileged and delighted to host the official unveiling of Bobby’s Bench. The new bench was commissioned by the Tipperary Rugby Committee in honour of our friend Bobby who had served as a member of that committee for over 50 years. Billy Brett (Tipperary Rugby Committee) was on hand along with Martin Shanahan (Thurles RFC) to cut the ribbon. This beautiful and all weather bench was fabricated by Davy Dwan of Brittas Engineering and is now fixed to the spot where Bobby stood to watch his beloved Thurles Teams for so many years. A fitting tribute to the man who gave so much to rugby in Thurles
