Divisional Cup Semi Final
Thurles 26 - UL Bohemians 24
Thurles Senior Women took on the travelling UL Bohemians Women in the Semi Final of the Divisional Cup at home in Loughtagalla. Thurles started slow and Bohs ran in two easy tries to take the early lead, score was 10-0 after 10 minutes. The AIL club utilising their speed on the wings got in for yet another try under the posts. Leaving the score 17-0 in what looked like an uphill battle for Thurles. But straight away Thurles rallied up the field and Kaityln Callanan finished strongly to score close to the post allowing the excellent Megan Callanan to convert. Halftime score 17-7.
Bohs started the second half strongly with a converted try. However, Thurles responded immediately with Holly Dwyer running a strong line and getting over the try line. Again converted by Megan Callanan who was on top form keeping the scoreboard ticking over and keeping Thurles in the game. From the re-start, Thurles had raised the pace of the game and were very soon back in Bohs 22’, Thurles were awarded a penalty and with quick thinking and a great knowledge of the rules Holly Dwyer did a quick tap and go and managed to get over the try line once more.
With 3 minutes to go the score was now 24-19, and Thurles having their purple patch, from a Bohs kick off Thurles secured possession and with an accurate kick from Katie Gleeson, Thurles were back inside the Bohs 22” for a lineout. Holly Dwyer made a crucial interception giving Thurles back possession. With a superb cross field kick from Megan Callanan, both Gemma Dunican and Eimear Ryan were in prime position to secure another try with Eimear Ryan touching down. Leaving the score 24-24 with only a conversion left to win. Megan Callanan in front of the posts showed her experience, holding her nerve and slotting it over the posts to win the game. Final score 26-24 ,
Thurles Women go back into training now with one eye firmly on the Final Vs Kerry in the next few weeks , venue and date to be confirmed.
